Families collect fallen mahua flowers before dawn. It is food, income and offering — and Sarhul (21 Mar) comes in the same weeks.

Kendu leaves are plucked for bidis, a key summer income in forest villages of Palamu and Santhal Pargana.
Ropa · July
Paddy is transplanted in terraced fields (don land) with the monsoon; Karma (22 Sep) prays for the growing crop.
Katai · Nov–Dec
The main paddy harvest, followed by Sohrai and Tusu — the happiest season of the village year.
Panchang padhna seekhein
- Tithi — one of 30 lunar days; most festivals use the tithi at sunrise.
- Paksha — Shukla (moon growing) and Krishna (moon shrinking).
- Maas — Jharkhand follows Purnimanta months, ending on the full moon.
- Nakshatra — the Moon's star group; Rohin parab is named after Rohini.
- Sankranti — the Sun entering a new sign; Makar Sankranti is Tusu.
Kya aap jaante hain?
- Jharkhand became India's 28th state on 15 November 2000 — Birsa Munda's birthday.
- Jharkhand holds about a quarter of India's coal reserves and much of its iron ore, mica and uranium.
- Jamshedpur's Tata Steel plant, started in 1907–1912, was India's first integrated steel plant.
- Santali, a language of Jharkhand, was added to the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution in 2003; it is written in Ol Chiki.
- Seraikela Chhau, one of the three Chhau dance styles, is on UNESCO's list of intangible heritage (2010).
- Parasnath hill, at about 1,350 m the highest peak of Jharkhand, is Shikharji — the holiest Jain pilgrimage site.
