Tusu Parab
For a whole month of Poush, girls of the Kurmi, Mahato and other communities in the Ranchi–Bokaro–Purulia belt sing to Tusu, a maiden goddess of the harvest. On Makar Sankranti she is carried to the river.

Chaudal
The chaudal is a tall, temple-shaped frame of bamboo and coloured paper, sometimes several metres high. Groups compete to make the most beautiful one and carry it, singing, to the Subarnarekha, Kanchi or Kharkai for immersion.
Tusu ke geet
Tusu songs are improvised by women and are full of humour, longing and comments on daily life — a bride missing her mother, a farmer's worries, even politics. They are sung every evening from the first day of Poush.
Mele
Tusu melas are held for days after Sankranti at places such as Sati ghat near Tamar, Hundru and many river banks, with pitha, sugarcane and folk music.
