Sarhul 2027: Friday, 9 April 2027, with Phulkhonsi the next day. Celebrated on Chaitra Shukla Tritiya when the sal trees bloom — the start of the new year for the Munda, Oraon, Ho and many other communities.

Sarhul ke teen din
Pehla din · Upvas
The pahan and his wife fast. Fish and crabs are caught and the house is cleaned and freshly plastered with cow-dung and earth.
Doosra din · Sarna puja
Worship at the sacred sal grove. Two pots of water placed the night before are checked — a full pot means good rain. Sal flowers are offered and a feast of rice and handia follows.
Teesra din · Phulkhonsi
The pahan visits each house and tucks sal flowers into the roof and people's hair, blessing the year ahead.
Naam alag, parv ek
The Oraon call it Khaddi, the Munda Ba Parab, the Ho Baa Porob, and the Santhal flower festival Baha falls in the same season. The common thread is respect for the sal tree (Shorea robusta), whose leaves make plates, whose seeds give oil, and whose wood builds houses.
