Shravani Mela, Deoghar

For the whole month of Shravan, lakhs of kanwariyas in saffron carry Ganga water from Sultanganj and walk about 105 km to offer it at Baba Baidyanath Jyotirlinga. Shravani Mela 2027 begins around Monday, 19 July 2027.

Yatra ka raasta

• Water is filled at Ajgaibinath ghat, Sultanganj (Bihar).
• The walk via Kamrai, Tarapur, Suiya and Inaravaran takes 3–4 days; dak bam pilgrims do it non-stop in under 24 hours.
• Many pilgrims continue to Basukinath in Dumka, about 45 km away.

Dhyan rakhein

• Mondays (Somvari) are the most crowded; the district administration runs a queue system and medical camps.
• Carry ORS and light footwear; the kanwar must not touch the ground.
• Deoghar has an airport and the Jasidih rail junction.
